Google funds fascist political campaigns and I don’t think Mozilla does. Seems worse to me than using shitter. And it doesn’t matter if you are using another chromium fork, Google is still getting more power to control web standards if you use a browser based on theirs.

And Google funds Firefox, to the tune of basically their entire budget. They don’t take individual donations.

I literally donate to Mozilla every month, so…

Is the point that you should go ahead and use chrome because Mozilla currently has a shitty funding model?

You can donate to Mozilla , but those donations will not be used for Firefox development (no developer salaries, etc). Firefox is developed by a for-profit that only takes money through sponsorship deals like the Google search partnership. Your donations are used for everything else, including tens of millions of dollars of AI venture capital grants for example.

Okay, well assuming that is true, I’m not entirely sure what to do with that information. I ask again,

Heavens no. Use a fork, and probably don’t donate to Mozilla unless you agree with how they’re spending your donations (i.e. not Firefox).

I’d use Firefox over Chrome no question, but I’d use a decent fork of Chrome before Firefox.

              Two reasons:

              1. I don’t declare perfect the enemy of good.
              2. I cannot ultimately make all my decisions based on angry-ex-reddit-moderators-with-axes-to-grind’s comments.

Is your contention that more of mozilla’s funding should come from google? Do you use a chromium browser? I hardly see how you’re helping by trying to shame me for doing something I believe helps the world a teensy bit.

@TrickDacy No, my contention is that if Mozilla wants people to contribute to their cause, they shouldn’t stomp on the people that support their cause.

Otherwise, other people can support whatever their new cause is - since it isn’t compatible with what their stated cause is.

PS: No I don’t use a Chromium browser. Shockingly, I still care about the open web.

Alright then. FYI, This sounds much more reasonable (especially in tone) than that first comment.

That is your first mistake. Many lemms live to do that. Particularly in the .ml side.

Yeah it’s pretty much the fundamental problem with society, if you get down to it.
