I think I’ve watched a lot of TV but I’m just a baby turtle entering the ocean.
My girlfriend mentioned a show that sounds a lot like a spinoff of Verne’s Lost World. She thinks it was called La Brea. Ever hear of it?
Probably the weirdest old show I’ve tried is Kolchak the Night Stalker, desperate for some supernatural strangeness after finishing the X-Files. It needed a heavy finger on the FFWD button because action scenes in the 70s were dreary.
Yesss! I AM NOT A NUMBER! I AM A MAN! My first girlfriend in college had a bunch of BBC VHSs: AbFab, Python, and, yes, the Prisoner. I think I remember a strange cross over episode where one of the Pythons was being chased by a blancmange, which I thought was for sure a reference to their weird capture orb from the Prisoner–hell given how Python was always raiding BBC supplies, it might have been the exact same orb.
But I probably would have found it otherwise; it’s not commonly referenced, but when it is, it’s like, “holy shit, what is this about? this is definitely something specific.” I’m guessing the Council of Ricks took some inspiration.
Yes, I think there was a TV Tropes page about that phenomenon I think called something like “Seinfeld isn´t funny.” Could also have been called, “Tolkien was a total hack.”
The Columbo with Johnny Cash was epic. Boss Hogg on keyboards.

If you’re new to the old, watch this. Don’t search for the story or watch a video of what it’s about, just watch it cold.

There’s an old joke about a theater critic who derides Hamlet as ‘nothing but a bunch of clichés strung together.’
This show is nothing but a bunch of tired tropes strung together.

Well, shit. Now I guess I have to watch this entire show. Thanks a lot.
Another turtle has made it to the waters!
I remember that on first run. I was just a kid and my parents didn’t want me to watch it.
