The US should have compulsory military service, once the Dem Socialists are in charge.
No buying your way out, no exemptions unless you’re in a vegetative state.
Everyone has to do it for 2 years.
It will build more generational solidarity than anyone realizes.
If the rich kid has to serve alongside the poor kids, maybe he’ll get a sense of what real life is like, especially if he’s the dude taking care of the toilets, or recycling milk containers.

My idea for preventing wars of choice is for there to be a designated loved one (child, spouse, grandkid, etc) the President has to personally kill with their own hands in order to order military action not pre-authorized by a 3/4 vote by Congress.
This was proposed during the Cold War. In 1981 Roger Fisher proposed having the nuclear codes in a capsule inside the chest cavity of a naval officer, whose job it was to carry a butcher knife to be killed with. If the president wanted to launch, he’d have to get the codes by killing this guy with his own hands
Two years may be too short, some jobs require near two years of training from boot camp to fleet. I’m in aviation and my initial contact was 5 years active instead of the standard 4.

I agree with service for 2 years (after high school before college) but public service in general not just military.
