There is a difference between secularism and anti-theism, and there are anti-theistic atheists that behave like proselytizing religious people, who are doing something worse than certain religious people (obviously not the fucking fundementalists). There are religious people that are using the religion to turn people away from crime and addictions etc, and taking that away from people to be an edgelord is an asshat move.
Secularism is when people are treated equally regardless of their faiths, and institutions are set up based on ideals outside of religious teachings.
Anti-theism is when edgelords talk as if the only thing that would solve the world’s problems is getting rid of religion, but don’t realise that when the USSR and Pol Pot did that, somehow it didn’t make a utopia.
Meanwhile irl every single day Christianity is pushed constantly. You can, in the same day, have someone knock at your door to harass you about it and also see street preachers ranting and raging. This shit is pervasive. You don’t have to be on r/atheism or in London in January of 2009.
“it happened once” is about the dumbest fucking way to make any argument. You have to pretend that those against your argument believe it never once happened. Which you know is a lie, no one thinks that, it’s just a manipulation tactic you’re using for whatever reason your therapist might help you understand.
Under the leadership of Pol Pot, who was an ardent Marxist atheist,[163] the Khmer Rouge enforced a policy of state atheism. According to Catherine Wessinger, “Democratic Kampuchea was officially an atheist state, and the persecution of religion by the Khmer Rouge was only matched in severity by the persecution of religion in the communist states of Albania (see Religion in communist Albania) and North Korea (see Freedom of religion in North Korea).”[164] All religions were banned, and the repression of adherents of Islam,[165] Christianity,[166] and Buddhism was extensive. It is estimated that up to 50,000 Buddhist monks were massacred by the Khmer Rouge.
The Agrarian Reform Law of August 1946 nationalized most property of religious institutions, including the estates of monasteries, orders, and dioceses. Many clergy and believers were tried, tortured, and executed. All foreign Catholic priests, monks, and nuns were expelled in 1946.
Article 256 of North Korea’s criminal law stipulates that anyone who engages in superstitious practices shall be sentenced to a labor discipline camp.[5][6] Articles 23 and 29 of the Reactionary Ideology and Culture Rejection Act explicitly prohibit the dissemination of superstition.[7][8]

Well shit, maybe they did use buses. Just not by putting ads on the buses, but by running people over in buses.
We both know that the point being made here was never ever “no atheist has ever once been aggressive with their beliefs”. If we aren’t arguing in bad faith, we obviously would read the point as “in general an atheist never does this stuff, while Christians literally do it constantly”. How stupid do you think people are that they don’t get that? I know you get it, this is just you wanting to argue or something.
For someone whose view on reality is based on facts and evidence, you have no idea how to look at historical sources of information.
The “New Atheists” movement was online and in the real world, the bus campaign I linked was part of it. Richard Dawkins and pals did all sorts of events, made organisations and sold merchandise for edgelords, and people said stupid shit everywhere; but the most easily documented and encountered was the “at this moment I am euphoric not because of any god” fedora enthusiasts on the internet.
yeah obviously.
It’s late, I’m going to give a shit reply.

Wanting to not be ruled by theocrats and forced to follow their fucked up rules is not ‘edgelord’.
That’s secularism, not anti-theism.

So you think this is happening, because someone bought an ad campaign for atheism 20 years ago?
I think atheists behave like that, and the proof I have if it is that bus campaign. Thus, op is wrong.
Your argument is “something I think is like this happened once, therefore the trend strong for thousands of years has been erased”
I genuinely think you have no idea what atheists were like online in the 00s-10s, probably because you are too young

OK, I’m sorry. Here’s a couple more times that people decided to force atheism down people’s throats, and they didn’t use pamphlets or buses…

Very
So you do get how much lifting the word “online” is doing there? People are obnoxious AF on the Internet.

Why exactly would you think I’d change my mind about your weird perspective here and keep reading? Enjoy whatever this is.
Your mind is set more in stone than a fundamentalist, so I don’t hope to change anything, just to disprove your bad arguments.
I hope you meet interesting people when you get to university.
