New Jersey elected a Democrat governor and gained five seats in an already lopsided assembly. Virginia elected Democrats statewide and flipped both houses blue. Democrats held three seats on the Pennsylvania SC. There were five out-of-cycle House races that all went to incumbent parties, which doesn’t say much considering they were heavily gerrymandered anyway.
Meanwhile, in 2026, we’re seeing Dems pick up a bunch of spare state legislative and municipal seats pretty much anywhere they’re open.
Not to say they aren’t trying shit, but if Republicans had a nefarious plan to end elections and just declare themselves the winners, they haven’t put it into action anywhere notable.
Do keep in mind that while Republicans are sinister, they’re also chronically lazy and incompetent. Very easy to see the GOP just kinda tucking its tail and giving up ground in 2026 just like they did in '06/'08 and '18/'20, then coming roaring back two years latter when people are mad at incumbent Democrats for the same problems they had under Republicans.
It’s not like the price of diesel will be coming down before 2030. And it’s way easier to just sit back and let Democrats take the blame for the next four years than to fight a losing battle with a lackluster team of burned out losers.
