Trump using rare power to revoke expenditure with bipartisan approval to aid immigrant services
Donald Trump is canceling nearly $1bn in spending approved by Congress, the White House announced on Friday, using a rare and contested power to axe funding for immigrant services and diversity-focused initiatives.
Trump’s office of management and budget described the funding cut as focused on “the most harmful government spending”.
Most of the cuts are focused on services for immigrants, including non-profits that serve refugees and unaccompanied minors accused of being in the country illegally. The administration says the funds are no longer necessary because illegal border crossings have diminished considerably.
This is the kind of editorial complicity that I truly hope historians will be incredibly harsh on.
Like if you’re the editor of the guardian (or wapo, or idk a billion other publications), I hope the whole world knows your name as a complicit spineless bitch that was instrumental in perpetuating this bullshit were all living through.
The media is owned by… the owner class. Of course they’re complicit. They’re a weapon. It’s like saying the gun was complicit in the murderer’s killings.
The Guardian is owned by a nonprofit foundation.
The editor is not “the media,”

Someone’s kid says “My (mom/dad) is the editor of the guardian’s current events section.” When asked what their parents does for work.
The biggest criticisms from the left about the guardian and their leadership seems to be their allegiance to liberalism as opposed to progressivism, so a defense and support of capital and the capital class at the expense of actual progress no matter the subject. This instance would also fit into that category if you perceive the Scott Trust group as owned by the ideals of the capital class.
I largely agree. The Graun was started in Manchester as a Liberal paper. They still adhere to Liberal Democratic Party principles, but have also at times flirted with the centrist Labour breakaway SDP, which quickly fizzled out, and with Blair’s New Labour quasi-US-Democrat abomination. They were a bit conflicted when the LibDems went into coalition with the Tories and enabled Cameron to get into office, but they got over it. Generally, they only grudgingly tolerate real leftists, and even then, inconsistently. For example, they unquestioningly jumped on the phony antisemitism smear against Corbyn that got that worthless bag of cement Starmer into power, despite strong signs even at the beginning that it was a stitch-up.
I’d characterise the Graun’s leaders as consistently, smugly bourgeois, just as their readership mostly is. Unless you have a strong resistance to the gag reflex, I advise you to avoid the culture and lifestyle sections in that paper.
And yet sometimes they are.
