This Arizona Burrowing Owl was not welcoming visitors when I pointed my 8-pound lens into the Gopher Burrow she has taken over.

Burrowing Owls are diurnal and are most active during the day unlike most other Owls that are most active at night.

      Traveling 140 million miles to be stuck in a lava tube for the rest of one’s life does not sound so exciting. It’s no wonder the owl was the first volunteer. He probably thinks he’s still too close to everyone else though.
