My advice to anyone heading to college: go to community College for at least a year, two if you can (I know it’s tough to miss out on ‘campus life’), get good grades and transfer to any decent college you want.

You’ll save a fortune, the education is the same and in the end, you should be going to college to learn something that you can use.

The aforementioned CUNY schools (and the larger SUNY system) are tuition-free for those under $125k in income, so you don’t necessarily have to do that in New York anymore. Only catch is you have to work in New York State for at least as long as you were in school, which I don’t think is unreasonable at all for a free degree.

      But it’s still good advice.

I did this while working full time. Took me almost 7 years to get a 2 year and 4 year degree, but came out with zero debt. Very much worth it.
