So, with the PS Plus discussion, I already letting my sub expire at end of year, thinking about that I have to setup back-up sync process on my PS5->USB->PC. To my surprise, that option is no longer available on PS5 games(only PS4 title, not upgraded version, still have that option.)

The price hike is there “because they can”, Sony even blatantly shows on the console they can let you save individual save to USB for PS4 games BUT not PS5 games. As a long time sub this double whammy also lead me to the decision that I will no longer buy any cross platform release on PS5.

  • PS5 will be left to play only the Sony exclusives from developer that I still care about. I will take the risk for not having save backups.
  • I will never pay for any online tax on any platform for multiplayer and cloud saves. (already dropped live during XBox 360 and never paid for Nintendo Online.)
  • I will keep my PS5 not updated after my current sub expires and wait for hack/jailbreaks so I can back up my save files.

Honestly it saddens me cause from now on every time my favorite developers release a game I have to remind myself about all the above. I am the type of fanatic that sometimes buys multiple copies of games on different platforms just to give devs I love more money. So with this change of event, I probably need to get a Xbox just to buy some future indie games in the $20~30 range instead of buying on PS4/PC.

Good job Sony, you cornered me really well, thanks.

You can backup game saves to USB on PS5 for PS5 titles, but with no option to control which saves are backed up. Go to Settings > System. Select System Software > Back Up and Restore > Back Up Your PS5.

There you can choose to back up saves only, but it’s also mandatory to save the system settings taking up 1GB of storage and you can’t choose which saves are to be backed up. You have to copy all of them.
