Im an atheist, but I was raised Roman Catholic.

The Jesus Christ of the New Testament would cry tears of blood having his name used to promote insatiable greed, before he moved on to wrath over it.

You can’t credibly worship at the alter of greed and call yourself a Christian. Modern conservatives reject practically all of Christ’s most belabored tenets. They preach hate, exclusion, intolerance, and selfishness, the literal opposites a Christ’s teachings in the New Testament.

That’s not even a no true Scotsman fallacy, unless you think its fair to call someone who openly despises what Scotland stands for and has only ever attacked Scotland’s core values and history a true Scotsman, at which point you might as well call the Nazis mensches because words no longer have any meaning.

It’s like 99% of the Christians I’ve met have never read the Bible, or think no-one else has ever read it:

In Luke 6:29-30 “If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.”

Luke 6:35 “love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back.”

Luke 16:13 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Mark 10:21 “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Matthew 25:41-45: Jesus said “‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons. For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink. I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. … Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’ And [I] will answer, ‘… when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’”

I am an atheist partly because in my single digit youth I could already see the gluttony and self-serving nature of my church building gilded shrines as people went hungry. I’ve since embraced more cogent reasons, but Jesus Christ as a person or a fictionial character was a communist humanist that I would like to believe I’d enjoy the company of.

Modern American Conservatives would crucify him again if he returned espousing the same lessons and condemnations.

It’s amazing how many of these narcissists claim to worship a man who, very famously, said the meek were the blessed ones.

And literally said it’s almost impossible to live rich and greedy and then go to heaven.

I’ve literally heard the prosperity gospel snake oil con artists say “wait, no no no, by the ‘eye of a needle’ Jesus meant the entry to a famous town that was referred to as that at the time, so, really he was welcoming the affluent, saying his kingdom will be as open to them as a town entry!”

And people actually buy that hilarious horseshit!

Remind me again what the love of money is the root of?
