Robert De Niro claimed his Gotham Awards speech was “edited” to remove critical remarks about former president Donald Trump, but that didn’t stop him from reading the uncensored version.

“Preventing people from taking pictures if their icloud is full even though their device isn’t to try to push upgrades to icloud storage.”

Wait, really?! You can even take a picture and store it locally on the phone?

Considering not everyone has iCloud and iPod touches with cameras exist, I’m calling BS on this one. I’ve never seen or heard of this.

Also that USB-C thing. I’ve heard so many people claim that Apple wanted to somehow “fix” their implementation of USB-C to require Apple-licensed cables (or that they did), but have never seen any proof of this actually being real.

My USB-C equipped iPhone works with every cable I’ve ever tried it with, Apple or otherwise.

Apple is a shitty corporation, but they have enough to be upset at them about without people making shit up or perpetuating falsehoods without fact-checking them first.

That’s because the 15’s are basically reshelled 14 pros, which had USB2 controllers. Apple just updated the connector.

That’s normal in the industry, not just Apple. It keeps costs down and allows them to wind down the manufacture of older components and ramp up on newer ones.

I expect next year’s base model to get USB3 speeds.

USB3 speeds don’t matter much anyway to most consumers, because most do not sync large files exclusively by cable anymore.

Right, most just pay for more icloud storage. Or is there another way to sync files on an iPhone?

Ignoring the fact that most cloud storage providers have a free tier or include it with other services most users already have, there’s always airdrop or connecting to a network share which iOS can do now.

What files are you constantly syncing that require faster than USB 2.0 speeds in 2023? If it’s large HD photo or video files then you fall into the “Prosumer” category and have a valid use case for a Pro iPhone, both for the camera AND USB 3 gains…

……or just wait a year or so for the base model to get USB 3, when the components are cheap and available enough to Apple to do.

Once again this is not specific to Apple. In 2022 there were about 10 Android phones that also released with USB2 speeds. Why is Apple suddenly in the wrong for doing the same thing?

Hmmm… Still think it sucks and should not have to be the case, but I concede and agree with you.

I mean I agree with you on that, it’s 2023 and USB 3 should be more ubiquitous than it is. It’s just not an Apple-specific thing is all.

I’m more upset that they would censor an actor’s speech over political concerns or potentially lie about the carbon impact of their product lines.
