What I mean is that they bully trans people into killing themselves and then try to treat being trans like a mental illness because of the suicide rate. Fun fact about the trans suicide rate: when a trans person is allowed to live out with the support of their community, it returns to within delta of the suicide rate for cis people. Trans people aren’t inherently any more suicidal than anyone else, and while we’d never be able to run such an unethical experiment I’d bet my house that if cis people had to deal with the constant bullying, othering and violence trans people deal with they’d probably kill themselves a lot more too.
I knew about the suicide statistics but I didn’t know that people were actively using those statistics as a ‘cudgel’ to try to go against trans folks, thus my confused ignorance on that. Well fuck. Definitely something i’ll be keeping an eye out for in the future to make sure that no one does that shit in /c/Gay or other places that I’m active in…
