They want people to be hardly making it, but enough to keep going, so they’ll work endlessly and accept crappy conditions. They want people to be deluded by propaganda and not have the energy or time to seek political change. Making money and retaining power is the point.
The capitalists have already adopted much from their utopian (sic) novels, 1984 and Brave New World, and soon will realize the economic utopia depicted in Dickens’ work.
