It’s a shame registration is so difficult right now when this is the perfect storm to get people to switch to Lemmy.

Ilemmy.world is currently experiencing great difficulties due to the large influx of users. Fortunately, the system is decentralized and we can use other servers 🙂

I think the confusion stems from the fact that you can’t simply register on an app. On both mobile and desktop however, the following works.

I think it handy if we were to repost this instruction manual (link to this comment itself) to everyone.

Easily Join Lemmy In Five Steps!

      1. Go to the Join Lemmy page.

      2. Click on “Browse” on any of these instances.
(each instance is like a Reddit on their own, with their own subreddits. Your account can generally see and interact from one instance, in any of the others.)

      3. Click on the ≡ icon in the right.

      4. Click “Sign up”, and enter the following.

      • Username
      • Password
      • Email address
      • (sometimes) captcha

You may need to verify this account by email.
Once done, your account is enabled.

      Have fun on Lemmy!

Your next and last step depends on where you want to use Lemmy, and if you want an app/addon for convenience.
If you’re on desktop and have no need for an addon, you’ve finished this. Otherwise, see these options below.

      For mobile users (Apple iOS):

      5. Download Testflight from the App Store. Then download any of these Lemmy iOS apps. Mlem is one fast option. Other great apps are Wefwef (runs in browser too!), Memmy (lots of functionality) and Thunder (resembles Apollo).

      For mobile users (Android):

      5. Download any of these Lemmy Android apps.

      For DESKTOP users, optional:

      5. Download any of these Lemmy desktop UI looks.
I personally like this Firefox addon, very sleek.

See here for more info on the addon, which also enables instances to use these as their backgrounds.

Finished and done? Great, welcome to Lemmy, and have fun!
