While the presentation still doesn’t feel quite right in the remake – it’s like an external team using brand guidelines to come up with ‘something Mario’ – there are some significant additions here.
Thankfully, while most of its early levels are virtually identical to the original, the game’s fourth world is entirely new to the Switch version – the first of two new worlds in the remake – and it does introduce some original mechanics. The remake also introduces a co-op mode and a casual difficulty, which adds checkpoints, though we can’t imagine many older players will need it to be any easier.
I’ll never understand these articles that act like Nintendo rereleasing games is some new thing. Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, Pokemon… they’ve been doing it for decades because there’s absolutely a market for it. I think you would be hard pressed to find a longtime Nintendo fan that feels negatively about this
When did they re-release SMG?
Assuming SMG is Super Mario Galaxy, that was in 2020 as part of the 3D All Stars collection.
Sadly, Nintendo being Nintendo, thought it would be a great idea to “Disney Vault” it and pull it from sale after just a few months. Only available now if you buy a secondhand physical copy at a huge markup.
Whoops, I meant SMW. There I go, asking the entirely wrong question while trying to be clever.
I don’t remember the year, but I had SMW on the game boy advanced so it was rereleased then.
Oh yeah, I remember that! Dang, that was a long time ago…
