Spotted this in a store today and promptly put my shit that I didn’t need back on the shelf and walked out.

Edit: it has been pointed out this sign is most likely ironic, in line with the companies schtick. I would counter that while that may be true, behind every good joke is a little bit of the truth. They mean this unironically also.

      Exactly.

It’s this cluttered, disorganized, warehouse-like, garage sale style bargain/discount place that sells probably 80% absolute junk, but within that last 20% of decent stuff, maybe 5% really is a screaming deal.

I prob would have never even gone there, except I heard they do carry fishing gear. Since that’s my main hobby I went to check it out expecting junk low quality stuff.

While they certainly had the junk, many of the locations I have visited also have a small amount of solid mid-tier stuff at a nice discount (maybe 20-25% off MSRP)…which is nice but with the limited selection wouldn’t keep me coming back…but then they also sometimes have some really nice high end lures for like 60-70% off, which is just crazy and idk how they are finding this stuff.

Those deals are good enough that I stop by my 2 local Ollie’s every few months to check their inventory, and when I’m out of town, if there’s an Ollie’s nearby and I have time to kill, I’ll stop in.

It’s not like I get all my fishing stuff there, but I’ve definitely filled out my selection of a few key types of lures buying their high end Japanese models that stack up with the best on the market…for less than half price.

Their business model is buying overstock items from other retailers and then reselling it highly discounted. It’s the reason you’ll find things that are Walmart, Target, etc store brands there.

Basically, it’s anything that aged out in inventory elsewhere that the original retailer no longer wanted taking up shelf space for whatever reason.

I know this, I guess I’m just wondering who’s selling them the inventory of high end JDM fishing tackle.

The same lures are still on the shelves at my favorite fishing stores, still selling for more than double what Ollie’s is asking. I guess I’d just think that if it was a major outdoor retailer clearing inventory, you’d see more than just this one brand at Ollie’s…and if their source was instead selling specific items from their stock, they’d get far more for it by selling to another outdoor retailer.
