      I like anime and I have seen far more binary anime characters than non-binary. Japan is pretty traditional, and anime from Japan is pretty rare to feature a character that is non-binary. Ive seen a lot of movies, shows, and OVAs stretching all the way back to the late 1970s, and I think the amount of non-binary characters I have seen is like five or less, and almost exclusively from shows released in the past two years.

      That’s not to say there weren’t characters that disguised themselves as men or women opposite to their gender (for various reasons, some because its a legitimate spy disguise, some because they want to, etc), but this would be considered cross-dressing, which is not the same as non-binary.
