Gretchen Whitmer responds to calls by some Democrats to vote ‘uncommitted’ in Michigan’s primary on Tuesday
Gretchen Whitmer, the Michigan governor, pushed back on calls to not vote for Joe Biden over his handling of the Israel-Gaza conflict, saying on Sunday that could help Trump get re-elected.
“It’s important not to lose sight of the fact that any vote that’s not cast for Joe Biden supports a second Trump term,” she said on Sunday during an interview on CNN’s State of the Union. “A second Trump term would be devastating. Not just on fundamental rights, not just on our democracy here at home, but also when it comes to foreign policy. This was a man who promoted a Muslim ban.”
Whitmer, who is a co-chair of Biden’s 2024 campaign, also said she wasn’t sure what to expect when it came to the protest vote.
Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat who is the only Palestinian-American serving in Congress, urged Democrats last week to vote “uncommitted” in Michigan’s 27 February primary.
Your only other choice is to not vote. There is no other choice for 2024. Forget about a world that should be, and about how elections should work. You guys didn’t care ever and you’re paying for it now, so for 2024 these are your choices, this is the bed y’all made. Truth is, you don’t oppose genocide, just the Israeli state. If you opposed genocide you would have all been yelling this loud for years about Yemen and China, but you didn’t cause you don’t actually care unless you’re news sources tell you to care or when you can use your pretense as a way to peddle hate against a people you dislike
That’s not a choice. If you have to, do a write-in. Not participating is allowing the opposition to win.
If you’re doing a write-in, you can also bring your own garbage bin to throw it in afterward. You can still have the smug satisfaction of not being one of the sheeple without wasting somebody else’s time as they try to decipher the chickenscratch.
Better than crossing your arms, saying no, and falling to the floor like a toddler.
Functionally equivalent is not better, it ends up the same.
On second thought: A write-in is worse because it potentially costs additional effort not only for the “voter” but, if it ends up being counted, the counter too. Sort of a dick move to risk taking up their time for nothing.
