Because “uncommitted” tends to mean “I’m displeased with Biden but begrudgingly admit that there is no other viable candidate that has as good a known chance of beating Trump”

Which in fairness is exactly how I feel, although I think that could’ve been averted had Biden and the DNC made championing young left wing voices over the past 4 years so alternatives did exist. But that time has passed so we get this choice

I’m just saying it’s chance for you to support an alternate candidate. Of course they will not be in this year’s ballot, but the party needs upcoming people to be spotlighted and the primary is a good place to do that. Just because the party leadership is flubbing this chance doesn’t mean you have to go along. “Uncommitted” is better than “Biden because he’s already the winner” but it still plays into the party blindness to alternatives.

Dean Phillips or Marianne Williamson. They are the other candidates. I think choosing one of them boosts new people within the party and may give a better idea of what you’re thinking than “uncommitted”. Ideally, since Biden’s place is secure, I wish he would acknowledge some alternate candidates, just say something he likes about them or give any indication, really, that he is aware the party needs to move forward without him in the near future. But if he won’t, that’s what the primary vote is for.

Williamson has already suspended her campaign. Phillips on the other hand is even more of a neoliberal than Biden is. What kind of message would voting for him send? That you want to move further to the right?

I think uncommitted in this case is actually sending a very specific message. One that would be lost if you voted for another candidate.
