To be fair, Kirk and Janeway don’t have any kids (not counting the lizard babies) as far as I’m aware. And Picard wasn’t even told about his son until waaaaay later. Plus, that only came out in Picard so I don’t think it counts lol
Kirk has an adult son named David in Wrath of Khan and Search for Spock. And despite knowing about him, Kirk stayed out of his life. David didn’t even know Kirk was his dad until it’s revealed in Wrath of Khan.
Kirk didn’t know about him until he met David and Carol on Regula I the Genesis Cave.
KIRK: I did what you wanted. I stayed away. Why didn’t you tell me?
CAROL: How can you ask me that? Were we together? Were we going to be? You had your world and I had mine. And I wanted him in mine, not chasing through the universe with his father. Actually, he’s a lot like you. In many ways. Please tell me what you’re feeling.
KIRK: There’s a man out there I haven’t seen in fifteen years who’s trying to kill me. You show me a son that’d be happy to help him… My son. My life that could have been… and wasn’t. And what am I feeling? Old. Worn out.
From Star Trek II.
So it’s not fair to blame Kirk for not being in David’s life. As soon as he knew David existed, he tried to have a relationship with him and when David was killed, he was clearly devastated to the point of hating Klingons so much that he was almost responsible for war because of it.
Ah, I misremembered that scene. I had been thinking that he was talking about staying away from David, not staying away from her, and that he’d said something about not seeing David in fifteen years.
