“Musicians today just don’t have talent anymore like they did when I was a kid”

There’s a new radio station in my city - they don’t call themselves a classic hits station, but that’s clearly what they are. Their playlist is from my formative years, the 90s and 00s. It’s been a stark reminder that in spite of how I remember it, there was a lot of crap in what we listened to back then. A lot of crap. Guess I’ve had my rose-tinted glasses on.

Yeah people love to romanticize music from the 90s but they always forget how much cringy terrible music came out between all those classic songs lol

I’ve always put it down to selection bias. Listening to a 60’s/70’s/80’s auto generated playlist on YouTube Music will eventually run out of the hits of the era and get into the weeds. The terrible, terrible weeds.

But according to my parents that was the hay day of music. It goes to show if you only listen to the good stuff then you’ll fool yourself into thinking that it was all good.

Yep, plenty of bands with 1 (ONE) good song in the entire career. I made some mistakes in my youth buying an album based on a successful single and everything else was utter crap.
