I love how this thread reads from my app:

Like… I mean they were pretty clear the first time I thought.

Their first comment was something about Jeremy Corbyn being kicked out by neoliberalism.

Which like, yeah, that’s arguably true. (tbh as an outsider, it seems to me like he was kicked out by zionism, which might have a lot of overlap with neolibs, but isn’t the same concept) But what on Earth does it have to do with this thread, @[email protected]?

That’s why I deleted it: because it was a weird hijacking of the conversation lol

He was kicked out by neoliberals who didn’t like that he was taking the party back to its left wing roots. The zionism was just a pretext, a means to their ends of getting rid of him.

Oh interesting. I didn’t know that.

Although amusingly, the zionism itself was not the direct pretext, because they didn’t say “we’re getting rid of him because we’re zionist and he’s against that.” They said “he’s antisemitic”, the all-too-common dogwhistle used on people who are actually just anti-zionism. So if it was actually about neoliberalism, that means there were two layers of misdirection involved.

Yup, that’s actually how neoliberals operate more often than not. Just like how their social politics provide (usually purely symbolic) support for some disadvantaged groups while conducting economic policy that hurts EVERY disadvantaged group more than it helps.
