Because then it makes it seem like the joker does not get that there’s two meanings in the phrase, like how the original commenter noted. It makes the joker seem condescending and oblivious.
Saying these types of jokes with a straight face would be much funnier than if the joker was mean spirited. Leslie Nielsen was a master at this.
