FYI, was a scout way back when. Great program, but mired by some shady characters. Also, parent participation is key. Pretty sure the troop I was in folded shortly after my generation.
They have made really big changes since the program was attacked by predictors. Now everything is guided and enforced by YPT (youth protection training)
It is probably one of the strictest organizations in terms of policy
Good to know. Stricter protections were needed. Not a victim myself, nor were there any in my troop that I was aware of, but from what I learned after leaving the program… yeah, not great.
It does piss me off that all the news organizations covered the click bait stories of people getting abused but then they don’t cover the resolve to it. You can’t undo trauma like that but you can jump start the healing process.
The news just wants views and they don’t care who they screw over in the process.
