Up here in Vermont, we haven’t had a strong winter in years, and haven’t experienced a 90’s style winter for over a decade. There’s barely much snow cover right now. When it does snow, it seems to melt in a few days, which has allowed the tick population to explode, and moose are getting decimated by that, both here and in Maine and New Hampshire.

“Start?” It’s started. I live in New York and haven’t seen snow stick to the ground in three years.

I probably saw the last great american north east snowstorms. Moved to the Boston area in the early 2010s and experienced the great snowpocalypse of 2015 (the last snow of which lingered on until July of that year, or so it is said). Since that storm things have dramatically whimpered out. Flash forward to 2023-24– one snowstorm that left significant amount that was immediately erased the next day by mid 40f temps and rain. Time was it’d be in the 10s right now but instead just can’t seem to dip below 30 for terribly long. This region thrives on complaining about the weather, what are they gonna do when it becomes a temperate tropical zone?

Don’t worry. You’ll have rain and flooding to complain about next.

I currently have snow, but unfortunately it mixes so much with freezing rain now I’m just getting a crunchy mess. We used to get light fluffy snow that you could shovel with a push broom and now everything becomes a sheet of ice with snow on top, followed by more ice.
