I’ve seen some pretty distasteful MLK Day ads, but this one…
It’s somehow even worse in the original email. It has a little animation of the chocolates jumping into Dr. King’s mouth.
I also find the image of companies using Martin Luther King’s image to advertise and make money pretty distasteful because it erases his history and message and replaces it with advertising and capitalism
FUCK CAPITALISM
He was killed once he started advocating for socialism. Just makes it more obscene.
Especially given his outspoken anti-capitalist views.
Definitely, yeah. But there’s the baseline offensive there always is when Capitalism appropriates its critics and criticisms and turns them into commodities to further profit from, and then there’s… well, this.
Like, this is an onion of bad choices. There’s layers to this shit.
Like the quote from the rich lady in Disco Elysium:
Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would critique capital end up reinforcing it instead
The chocolate industry also does a lot of slavery.
And has children working in the supply chain.
For anyone unsure, of course Cadbury isn’t exempt:

They have a history of poor ads apparently
Op you should send this to news sites to create a pain in the ass for snackcrate because some companies don’t change until their behaviour is bought into the spotlight
Lmao, what even was the thought process here? “You know what’ll make people want to eat our chocolate? Santa’s dick.”
Another proof that people running big companies are sociopaths. Seriously no one looked at that and thought it was distasteful?
Yikes. Shared with the NAACP.
You’re doing free advertising for them so I’d say their campaign is potentially successful.
No, now I know to avoid this company
You’re implying that you would have been a customer. Maybe they lose some current customers off such tactics but if their stuff is being reposted everywhere a lot more people are s hearing about the existence of the service who have never heard of it before, and some of those will be new customers. Obviously many will find it distasteful, but most weren’t customers in the first place.
Right, and as current US politics shows us, pandering to the racists is a winning marketing strategy
I have no clue what brand this chocolate is and I literally just looked at the ad.
I do walk away from this post with a disgusting feeling that dirty capitalists are profiting off of the legacy of MLK though.
OP was fine to bring attention to this.
Meh. Being a wrestling fan in the late 90s/early 2000s and watching WCW fall apart disabused me of the notion that there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Is this a legit ad? Seems like a meme on a KKK message board.
Legit ad. I’ve been on their mailing list since my brother gifted me one of their boxes, and I got this email from them yesterday.
Yeah… won’t be ordering anything from them in the future.
“It’s ok we had a black person writing this”
“Snackers” huh
Sir the clue was ‘people who annoy you’
I’m just another snacker guy
whats worse the only diverse part of it is the curly wurly. you can just get everything else easily.
I’m in the US. We don’t get most of the Cadbury stuff here, and what we do get (mostly Creme Eggs and Mini Eggs, sometimes Dairy Milk bars) is made by Hershey under license so it’s kinda crap.
Unless, of course, you get it from an importer like World Market or these guys. Though I don’t think I’ll be buying from these guys in the future.
made by Hershey under license
THAT’S WHY THEY SUCK NOW? I used to love these things as a kid… I still usually buy 1 eqch year, knowing I’ll regret it, which I consistently do.
Easy: fly across the ocean, purchase a few sweets, fly back. If you take your private jet over, you can be there and back in a single day.
Reprehensible
Cringe
This shits disgusts me and I’m white, cant imagine how it must feel for someone who has to contend with systematic racism
Wtf
It’s not even hard to do that. But having this idea, printing it in letters, completing it… How did they not have a keyboard burning under their fingers?
