Q:Who?

A: Just me and Dee, thus far. It’s the fediverse. Doesn’t take much to get started.

Q:When?

A: Around June 2023

Q:What?

A: Lemmy is part of the Fediverse. It’s a place to gather and share ideas, but the big draw is a lack of advertising and tracking crap that is on every site lately. Get your info, get out, stay, whatever. It’s fast because it’s a simple design and is already geared for both mobile and desktop viewing.

Q:Why?

A: You can see in the Welcome Post that Dee was inspired by the “enshittification” of Reddit, to find or make greener pastures. I felt the same and thankfully Dee had already provided the initial framework.
The ability to host a similar fan message board became sought after and many options (such as kbin, firefish, etc) became available. Lemmy bears the most similarity to Reddit, by far, with the other services existing in a “microblogging” format rather than the layered comments of a message board.
It’s not that some great request came from the community to make this. The beauty of the Fediverse and relatively cheap hosting is in how they provide that opportunity to gather as a community from across the planet. This design also allows for the implementation of translation programs for other languages as well as the audibly and visually disabled communities.
If even one person out there gets to feel they are just like all the other Critters out there, then this has all been worth it.
As of this writing in February 2024, there is more than just one, and the more the merrier.

Q: Where?

A: Answering simply “the internet” or “the web” felt boring and in an exploit of a technicality I’m going to say Straya.

Q: How?

A: I shall not speak for Dee and declare the magicks invoked to create this tiny beacon of light in the darkness, for they are known only to her and those most trusted in her empire. You are welcome to try the Create Community link often found near the top of this page.

Q: Do you plan to post combat stats like CritRoleStats?

A: I do not.
Don’t get me wrong, I love math. The draw from this show exists entirely outside of number crunching for me. I’ve posted some abilities from the Campaign 3 level up to 12, but most of any stat stuff I’ll put up here is likely to have credit shown to the account name of it’s origin.
For number crunchy battle stuff, I prefer 4th edition Dungeons & Dragons or other systems that push it for (albeit sometimes questionable) reasons, like Rifts megadamage, or Battletech evasion, or Shadowrun hacking combat, etc.

Q: Why are you so obsessed with what songs they sing?

A: Hey, to be clear, that’s on me (Gramps) and not Dee. Adding to the point above about the draw of this show:

  • The cast have contemporary acting and theater backgrounds, so they’re going to have a refreshing variety of songs to associate with the action.
  • It’s a fun little thing to be a human shazam when watching the show. Perhaps it will make me high on the list of “the resistance” when an actionable form of ai appears. Taking back jerbs from the robits.
  • Music is the medium through which I best interpret the spirits and intentions of those within my sphere of influence. It is my first chosen path to peace and equilibrium.
  • Episode 65 of Campaign 3 had a veritable pantload of song references, and it was the spark, if there ever was one.

Q: Are you worried that your massive posts/comments will discourage others from participating?

A: Absolutely. There’s these lines you walk to maintain a balance (one I am always learning, My Cup Is Never Full). I’m dumping a ton of energy into the site now just to kinda build a foundation of things for people to respond or add to. Most of this was a result of a surplus of quasi-free time over the 2023 holiday season.

  • I sincerely want to hype this uncensored, ad-free, minimal interface without seeming desperate or having some agenda.
In this regard I feel significant empathy for the CR cast and crew. There is this vehicle (Live play TTRPG) that has so much potential to invite introspective thought and psychoanalysis and yet for that same reason is also somehow viewed as potentially subversive or having the potential to corrupt, in some way.
For clarity, I try to promote the concept of creativity in as many ways I can. There are many voices for change, but enough disinformation exists to establish some filters:
    • Immediately void if promoting a “destroy it all and rebuild from the ashes” position.
    • Having an effective bullshit detector regarding the sciences.
    • Being unafraid to broadcast love and support for a marginalized community that is experiencing hate crimes.
For example:

The Amber Ruffin Show and it’s spiritual successor in podcast form The Amber & Lacey, Lacey & Amber Show.)

  • I don’t want to overpromote or sell out and give everything the seal of approval.
  • I want to be a fan without being a generic target demographic, whenever possible. The weird of the world is welcome and needed…
