Robert Tracy’s appointment as St. Louis’ police chief came with a sweetener: In addition to a $175,000 annual salary from the city, a nonprofit organization made up of local business leaders pays him $100,000 a year more.
The arrangement raised some questions at the time about whether the St. Louis Police Foundation’s money would influence Tracy’s approach to policing in a city with one of the nation’s highest rates of violent crime.
Just like paying protection money to the local gang.
There’s no way the police chief should be legally allowed to take that money.
Just like paying protection money to the local gang.
This is like paying protection money to a local gang:
Derek Chauvin. He worked security at her club for 17 years.
She sold the club in 2019. When Santamaria saw Chauvin pinning George Floyd on the pavement in the video that shocked the world, she recognized both, because Floyd worked as a bouncer inside the club in 2019.
hol up. Derek Chauvin knew George Floyd? Derek Chauvin worked with, and knew George Floyd, prior to murdering him in broad daylight?
yes
The club owner recognizing both doesn’t necessarily mean both recognized each other
If they worked there at the same time, they definitely would have known each other; any bouncer/security would know any detail cops that regularly moonlighted there, because they’re doing the same job, and need to know who each other are. It’s like thinking that the person who busses tables wouldn’t know the waiters.
Even if Chauvin hadn’t worked there regularly, they would have known each other enough to say hello.
Are there no laws about public officials accepting gifts from the community there? Or, you know, bribery? I’ve had public service jobs a lot less important than that and I’d have had a big headache accepting a $25 gift card from a community member let alone an additional yearly salary.
Bribery and conflict of interest regulations and laws tend to be suspiciously not applicable to a lot of law enforcement funding related situations…
leaders are questioning the $100,000 per year the chief receives from local business owners. “Can the criminals get together and pay the chief?” asked one alderwoman.
Lmao they clearly already are silly alderwoman.
His loyalty isn’t divided at all, he’s 100% loyal to money.
He should have just moved jurisdictions, St. Louis County pays police like twice as much as St. Louis Metro.
