The Dragon Ball Official News page for this has been removed, but I’ll update it if the article is reuploaded. Here’s another news site with info and an X post with a screenshot of the original message.
I’m seriously distraught. I’m normally not the kind of person that cares when famous people die, but it’s so upsetting to think about the huge hole that will be left behind. No one can do what he does. No one can replace him. He was still working on Dragon Ball. We will never get more Toriyama content for Dragon Ball. The last time they tried doing Dragon Ball without him, it was GT.
Toriyama was probably the most influential manga author/artist of all time. He made a massive impact on my life. My wife and I bonded early over our love for Dragon Ball, so it’s a very important part of our relationship. We have traveled far and wide to meet the voice actors (bother English and Japanese) at conventions so many times. We have SO many things signed by the voice actors. So much our lives have revolved around Dragon Ball.
AND THAT’S JUST DRAGON BALL. He worked on so many other things.
Thank you for all you have done for me, Toriyama.
I just hope they don’t go wakadoo with the fanfiction bullshit transformations. RIP to the series legend that got me into anmie decades ago.
I’m more sad than I expected. He influenced a lot of my younger years more than I realized. To think some nobody in the Midwest can feel sadness for a great man in the other side of the world.
You will be mised Toriyama. Thank you for.the beautiful stories.
I was not expecting to be so upset hearing this news. I grew up watching dbz in some of the most turbulent times of my life. I watched his TV shows and saw how the characters in the show always prevailed time and time again over those who tried to harm them. It very much did not mirror my childhood, but it gave me a much needed distraction from real life, and made me believe that there were actually good things in the world, and not just pain and suffering.
RIP Mr. Toriyama, you saved me even though you never knew me.
Fuuuuck
Dragonball will always have a very special place in my heart. You’ll be remembered for as long as I’m alive at least, Toriyama. Rest in peace.
Dang rip buddy. Time to start liking for those dragon bands again.
Chrono Trigger got me through some hard times. I maxxed every characters’ levels and stats that I could with tabs. Didn’t dupe or hack, only stole them. That’s how many times I played, over and over. I’m going to start another playthrough now… (ू˃̣̣̣̣̣̣︿˂̣̣̣̣̣̣ ू)
I have lots of great memories of watching Dragonball with my brother. I don’t watch anime anymore, but no doubt it had a great influence on both of us, and I’ll cherish it forever. His work will always have a special place in my heart.
Rest in peace, and thanks for everything.Awww man. Dragon ball had a huge influence on me.
Ooof, this hits hard. A true legend.
