Does anyone else not really like talking about their special interests?

I can see how bored people are the second I start, like their eye contact suddenly breaks and they look around the room, and only say “mmhmm” instead of replying. So I shut up after one sentence.

But if the other person also likes the subject, I don’t like talking to them either, because there’s nothing to say. If we disagree I don’t want to be rude and argue so I awkwardly pretend to agree. If we agree then all you can do is tell each other things you both already know and agree that they’re good.

Ho boy, my mind is a minefield of such topics. I’m compulsively drawn to obsess about new things for a few months and then never think of it again until someone brings it up.

This meme hit me hard, so true.

I did make the mistake of trying to convince people that learning Linux and using FOSS is the only way to keep some power as the people.

That created a clique of friends that are now telling me every single time they pay for a movie from amazon (calling it buying), that comment every problem I encounter with “That’s a Linux problem” and keep telling me they have “nothing to hide” (“nothing to hide” just means “nothing to protect”).

So yeah, I pissed them off by being too emotional in that topic, and now it’s a game for them. I will refrain from being seen as “too involved” because of that.

Why pretend? As long as you do not spam people it should be fine? And spamming is always bad, regardless of the topic.

      I’m a huge nerd. I love triggering people’s interests.

But one day at the local coffee house someone was wearing an O.G.R.E t-shirt, a very old game. And I’d been an active gamer in that era but never played that one.

This was simply unacceptable! He had to describe the game in great detail, and I’ll admit I had a good time letting him let it all out.

It’s fun! I’m sure he remembers that day when someone actually knew what his shirt was about.

It was an old shirt, but not quite ratty.

What do you like to print? I like making useful things. Currently Im working on a system for mobility aids to attach items like phone charger batteries and cup holders… and my ham radio!

90% of the time I do functional stuff. (shoutout [email protected] or [email protected] or [email protected] )

I also make fun things to give away. My day job has an animal mascot, so I found a low poly version and printed it in company colors and gave it away to my coworkers. My “last meters” type prints are usually functional, but fun. Book marks tend to be popular (link )

I will be your #1 personal progress cheerleader though!

Someone can tell me all the things that caught fire because their damaged ass just looked at it, and I will still be like; So you got out of bed AND made coffee? THATS FUCKING AMAZING
