How the steel wedge plunged into that skull might well loose the lover it once housed

Oof… I appreciate the bitter longing in this line.

It reminds me of the many frustratingly ignorant comments on a recent Lemmy post about women getting murdered by men who reject them. Some claimed that it’s not hard to know if someone is dangerous or an asshole shortly after you meet them. 🙃

Oh, if only that were the case.

I think the reason a lot of guys will say stuff like that is because to a lot of guys it’s obvious who the bad guys are.

I’ve tried to tell multiple women that the guy their fuckin with is bad news and always get met with “well he’s not like that with me”

It got to the point I quit because no one ever listened ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That’s because abusers control their victims by manipulating them them via gaslighting, guilt-tripping, love bombing, ect, which distorts their perception of reality.

Sure, some scumbags—usually the more dim-witted ones—can be easier to spot to those on the outside (including women) because they don’t face a barrage of constant manipulation. But many are certainly not, and fool practically everyone around them.

If you haven’t read Ross Gay’s “Book of Delights,” and “Book of (More) Delights,” do yourself a sweet, happy favor and read them soon. They are an eyes wide open refreshing change from just about everything else, all without resorting to Pollyanna naiveté.

If you’re into audiobooks, he narrates these two, which is some icing on the cake.
