I prefer to wait until after new games are released so that I can read reviews and allow developers to patch their games properly. In my experience, games tend to improve over time with more bug fixes, added story content, and discounts.
I enjoy casual games that don’t require me to constantly try hard or compete with players who have more time to dedicate to gaming.
Do you have any recommendations for a casual game that would be suitable for a patient gamer like myself?

Stardew Valley. Nice farming sim where you can play at your own pace by yourself.

Any preference for a genre? I love to casually play single player RPGs. I’m currently playing Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. If you are unfamiliar with Assassin’s Creed and you don’t care about graphics, don’t sleep on Assassin’s Creed 2, Brotherhood and Revelations. Easy one of the best trilogies out there. So much content, so perfectly crafted.
Another RPG that’s a lot of fun is the Borderlands series, particularly Borderlands 2.
Say you’re not looking for an RPG. Telltale has some games that won’t cause any stress in gameplay, they are interactive stories.
Sea of Thieves is well made as well. They have a specific mode if you don’t want to meet other players. Sessions can take a long time, though.
If you like automotive games, you could check out The Crew. It’s not complicated to drive those cars. However, I found the interface very confusing and Ubisoft tries to get you to spend money in-game a LOT.
Tabletop Racing is another fun lil racegame that’s not too complicated.
Pressure is a fun lil casual game.
Pokémon is always something that can entertain for a while. You can install an emulator on Windows called VisualBoyAdvance. Find yourself a ROM of Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow, Silver/Gold/Crystal or Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. The last of the three in the set is different from the first two, it follows the anime more closely. The difference between the first two is in the Pokémon you’ll encounter and not much else. If you have a Switch, the remakes do pretty well. But then again, Nintendo will always ask 60 bucks for that.

Disco Elysium is supposed to be a mostly narrative driven game. I started playing but I need to think of it more as a book than a game and set aside enough time to get into it.
I’d like to recommend Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. 100+ hours of masterful goodness. Get lost in one of the best game worlds ever crafted.
Or if you really wanna be a patient gamer, Breath of the Wild is still amazing too.
Even more patient still- Skyward Sword is quite enjoyable.
LttP is also still fun, but does it still count as casual? Lol

Medieval Dynasty is a nice relaxed survival craft/build game where you develop from your house in the woods to a village with working residents.
You can tweak all the survival elements to take the pressure off or speed up the game to your leisure.
There’s some basic bandits and wild animals to add a bit of jeopardy.
