President Joe Biden named Donald Trump as the “primary threat” to “freedom and democracy” in the United States.

Anyone still thinking of Trump as the cause instead of the symptom is kidding themselves. He’s been powerless for almost 4 years now and MAGAism is at an all-time-high. There’s a much larger reckoning America needs to face instead of pinning Trump as some sacrificial lamb.

Let’s start by getting rid of that fat fuck and send him to prison until he ends up in a pine box.

      Fuck him.

Then, let’s go after all the other traitors.

He isn’t powerless though. Mike Johnson blocked the border bill, and is blocking any other bill exactly, because he told him to do it.

He currently isn’t holding any office, but the GOP is still doing what he tells them.

Him not having power is only on paper.

Well… I’m not sure I’d want the President to control the legislature, regardless of who the incumbent is. Checks and balances and such…

Fair enough. There’s definitely good reason to not want that either though. To characterize Trump’s control over the party as troubling would be the understatement of the century.

The fact that Biden doesn’t wield the same influence is a good thing IMHO. It does present challenges in that some legislation has a more difficult time getting through since the left is slightly less unified than the right, it means that the left is less bereft of sycophants who simply do what they’re told. They are more likely to use their brains and represent their constituents better.

And pneumonia is just a symptom of AIDS, COVID, etc. Sometimes the symptoms will kill you before the cure can be implemented. Ignoring the dangerous effects would be just as foolish as not addressing the root cause.

Yes, he is the symptom, but he’s also the greatest threat to this country at the moment. Capitalism will eventually need to be done away with, but that’s harder to do under a fascist dictatorship.

Face what? Poorly funded educational systems? Christo-fascism? Social Media? Corporate-run/for-profit news/media outlets? Funny how the guy not in power has so much pull in our government that he could persuade the Republican-controlled house of reps to withhold voting on immigration - the very thing this ‘lamb’ uses to scare up his base. Sorry my guy, but he’s part of the problem, too.

All of the above and then some. A person doesn’t get ~74,000,000 votes off a campaign of overt hatred without some larger societal issues in effect; people whose lives are going great don’t generally respond well to “we need to get rid of these people.”

I agree, trump is awful in every sense of the word and has no business in politics.

My point is instead of propping him up as a boogeyman to drive easy fundraising, how about we lock him up for selling state secrets and throw away the key? Or take your pick from one of his other 91 felony charges. We need justice, even for a former president.

You make a good point, but it’s also a covered up by being a complete douchebag. Such a shame. Maybe start by being civilized when talking to people online.

I would agree that there’s been a massive and well organized push by Christian fascists to destroy this country. However, to act like Trump is a pawn I think is wrong. He has benefited significantly from this dynamic.

Trump realized a long time ago that the Christian fascist party could be easily manipulated to get him whatever power he wanted. This is why he dropped all his pro choice liberal principals and jumped fully into the Christian fascist party. And it worked!

If you create a giant monster and set it out to attack a city, I don’t think its really smart to say monster isnt the biggest problem at a given moment. Unless giant monsters can be grown quicker than they can be defeated the realistic priority is going to be to deal with the giant monster first and then deal with the architects afterward.

In all fairness, he’s not a bad democratic choice. He’s a mid tier president who has been able to get a good amount of things done in spite of not having a supportive congress or judicial system.

To say it’s the only positive thing about him is to play into the hands of republicans.

And your alternative to voting for either of the two parties in a two-party system is?

Between someone complacent in a genocide and someone who actively wishes to accelerate said genocide, the lesser evil is voting for the former. Or, one could vote third party and exercise some mental gymnastics to feel like they are morally superior while effectively doing nothing to solve the problem.

People who ignore everything they don’t care about in order to pretend others are extremists… Both sadden and amuse me. You’re setting the bar so low for what discourse is that it’s pathetic.

Anyone who thinks avoiding Trump is the most important thing in American politics? Yes we all simply love genocide. It makes us so happy.

When your moronic antics reelect Trump, he definitely will defy his promises and end all present and future genocides though

You can’t see the basic logic of how the elections work in America and that is your issue, not mine. Go ahead and campaign for trump. It’s truly sad when it’s a toss up between “this person is lying in order to get trump elected” and “this person is a fucking moron who actually thinks that a third party would ever ever even get close to a win in America”
