I lived in Chicago for many years. The Edward Hopper piece was always my favorite to visit at the Art Institute - that and the Bruce Nauman Clown Torture multimedia exhibit when they’d rotate it in.

I was unaware of Boulevard of Broken Dreams 1984 being an interpretation of the earlier Nighthawks, so I thought maybe you were making a darker implication of the state of Star Trek with this at first, lol.
Nothing so complex. I made the TNG variation after rewatching “The Big Goodbye.” The clothes they wore in the holodeck plus the noir music reminded me of that painting. Then I think it was FlyingSquid who requested the TOS crew, so I popped them in.
