I hope the Haitian people can make some peace. There’s not many on Earth who were dealt as bad a hand as them.

Very true. If they didn’t have bad luck, they’d have no luck at all.

No bad luck needed when the World turned on them when they won their freedom. It may no longer be the case but such a scar leaves long lasting effects.

They had bad luck choosing leaders. They had bad luck with the earthquake. The UN and US has come to their rescue many times.

The US previously invaded Haiti in 1915, then intercedes in 1994, after a miltary coup in 1991, and reinstalls a former President (Aristide). Notably they did nothing to help Haiti when Papa and Baby Doc Duvalier were murdering thousands under their dictatorships.

America has only been hands-off when it suited their needs.

America has only been hands-off when it suited their needs.

Sure, let’s forget a 9.0 earthquake when US doctors flew into help, a US warship was floated into the harbor to provide water. US troops came to help. It was all because it suited US needs…

Caribbean leaders met in special session in Jamaica and came up with this one plan. Haiti has not strategic revelance for the US, except its a neighbor. Quit trying to equate things that happened in the bad old 60s. It’s boring.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Henry presented his resignation in a letter signed in Los Angeles, dated April 24, and released on Thursday by his office on the same day that a council tasked with choosing a new prime minister and Cabinet for Haiti was sworn in.

The council was installed more than a month after Caribbean leaders announced its creation following an emergency meeting to tackle Haiti’s spiraling crisis.

They burned police stations and hospitals, opened fire on the main international airport that has remained closed since early March and stormed Haiti’s two biggest prisons, releasing more than 4,000 inmates.

The onslaught began while Prime Minister Henry was on an official visit to Kenya to push for a U.N.-backed deployment of a police force from the East African country.

“It is impossible to overstate the increase in gang activity across Port-au-Prince and beyond, the deterioration of the human rights situation and the deepening of the humanitarian crisis,” María Isabel Salvador, the U.N. special envoy for Haiti, said at a U.N. Security Council meeting on Monday.

Tens of thousands of others left homeless after gangs torched their homes are now living in crowded, makeshift shelters across Port-au-Prince that only have one or two toilets for hundreds of residents.

    lol. Good job.

Maybe a little late and out of touch with the reality of the current situation… But also maybe it has relevance to mean something and speed up regional peace.

The most famous Ariel is the little mermaid, so some people might assume it’s a girls name.

I guess, but Ariel Sharon was prime minister of Israel for a long time, so it’s not exactly a male name one one’s heard of.

FWIW, Ariel was an angel, who are supposedly genderless, so it’s a unisex name.
