Biden gave a speech this morning condemning the university antiwar protesters. He calls them violent and says that they are protesting illegally.

“We do not need allies more devoted to order than to justice”
-Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.In moments like this, there are always those who rush in to score political points. But this isn’t a moment for politics.
Joe “nothing will fundamentally change” Biden
Wut
Pro Palestinian protests
The president stressed that violent protests are not protected under the law
Still won’t admit these are anti genocide protests, and obviously does not care about the “counter protestors” who attacked UCLA students.
The beatings will continue until moral improves.
Order for who?
Order for who, motherfucker?
But have you considered that those investing in genocide are human too
I did! And I came to the conclusion that no, they are not.
He’s gonna sign that antisemitism bill isn’t he?
Of course
Trump might just win. I feel like Biden assumes he can ignore millions of young voters and they’ll still vote for him. Younger adults much like teenagers are more spiteful, there is a certain point for everyone and with every negative action Biden does he loses more people who just cant accept anymore.
Biden isn’t ignoring anyone. He has to balance appeasing everyone. Even in the speech he stressed that the right to peaceful protest must be respected, he condemns both antisemitism and Islamophobia. He has supported Israel as they are a weird surrogate country for us while also strongly condemning their actions and working with them directly to TRY to minimize the damage.
He is trying to do the most good while not letting Trump become a dictator. He can’t ignore ANYBODY. That’s only chance he has to preventing another Trump presidency.
And yeah, I say this knowing that he should have dropped out and let another Dem with less baggage take over.
Man your Biden does a lot more then the one i have.
Low information voters don’t pay attention and then get pissed about it. Nuance and reason lose out to passion and ignorance. Sorry, Biden gets a lot of shit done. And he can get more done with more support. But instead we’re going to get another Trump presidency and fight for every civil right we have like we did the last time.
And he can get more done with more support.
More genocide, blocking strikes and economic wars against American workers?
Thanks I’m good.
You’re getting more genocide if he loses.
You’re getting more blocked strikes if he loses.
You’re getting more economical wars against American workers if he loses.
Sorry if you don’t like his stances. But if you care about these things, Biden is the only choice.
Thank you. He literally has to appeal to centrists if he wants to win. He has no choice. Even the slightest shift means he has no chance of winning.
… I’m confused by your response. Biden has been and continues to appeal to centerists right? Like that’s what he’s been doing for his entire presidency.
He has, and continues to, support progressives and moderates. He’s very much a progressive-leaning moderate that is willing to go further left if he can (something Hillary refused to do).
The only time he really goes hard centrist is when it’s potentially catastrophic for him to do otherwise. And even then he goes centrist, he tries to find ways to push the situation left (eg. border security, Israel, railroad strike).
How dare heroic protesting students stand against genocide.
Fuck off, Biden. Stop the slaughter.
What i figure from this is that the only reasons the Democrat party doesn’t win more often in the US, is that they’re really, really, really bad at their jobs.
Like take Hillary for instance. She only lost because she managed to look more incompetent than Trump. Now Trump is doing his darnest that no one will be more incompetent than him, but by all the starts in the universe, genocide Joe will give him a run for his money
Stay tuned for the election with the worst presidential candidates that the US could produce. It’s so embarrassing, i fear my face might freeze in the cringe.
Scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds. The protests scratched Biden.
Can you explain the meaning of this
Ripping a comment word for word:
Especially when subject to leftist criticism will they suddenly swing hard right. Progressive liberals will take all sorts of quasi-socialist positions, as long as they are arguing with a reactionary under an overarching reactionary climate.
But as we saw with Obama and Clinton, they will easily swing right when offered the most tepid social democratic criticism, let alone fully Marxist ones, if they fall for the propaganda that claims neoliberalism is “adult politics,” “reasonable,” “centrist.” The same people who protested Bush’s wars and called for UHC in 2007 were defending Libya and Honduras and attacking UHC in 2016.
Liberals, progressive or reactionary, are consummate opportunists. They have to be, by necessity. If your average worker maintained a consistent set of values and historical vision, we would all be revolutionaries by now. Turning on a dime to talk out both sides your mouth is the only way to uphold a liberal political party’s line. “Respectability politics” can only work if people disrespect historical continuity and their own good moral/class sense.
The same day they tell a white supremacist that the police are racist and corrupt and that we need strong social programs, they will tell a leftist that community self policing/armed self defense and serve the people campaigns are ridiculous. To them this hypocrisy is nuance, but to anyone with clear historical vision and class consciousness it’s just hypocrisy and a clear sign of how a protofascist develops
Liberals always passively let capitalism decay into fascism, because fascism doesn’t harm the capitalist class. When forced to make a choice between organizing to overthrow the capitalist state and letting it decay into fascism, they will always choose fascism.
The Freikorps in Germany for example that hunted down communists, socialists, and trade unionists were already being trained and funded by the government even before the Nazis had ever come into power.
Hilary has negative charisma and being a Democrat woman for her was also a negative. The woman part was the worst.
These are not my feelings about her (well, the negative charisma is) but just my view on why she had little chance versus Don Cheetos.
The self-licking boot.
Let’s highlight the actual points in this article instead of taking Hexbear at their word:
emphasizing that violent protest is not protected under the law.
Biden emphasized that “peaceful protest is in the best tradition of how Americans respond to consequential issues”
“Whether it’s antisemitism, Islamophobia or discrimination against Arab Americans or Palestinian Americans, it’s simply wrong… In America, we respect the right and protect the rights for them to express that, but it doesn’t mean anything goes. It needs to be done without violence, without distraction, without hating and within the law.”
The president also said “no” to a separate shouted question asking whether he thinks the National Guard should intervene in the campus protests.
To summarize, he respects their right to protest and called for nonviolence without citing any side in particular. Notable that there have been violent counter-protestors.
Berkeley has had an encampment on campus since April 22nd and hasn’t sent in the cops.
As always, with protests like this, the violence always begins with cops.
Violence begins with cops or fascist agitators*. So far the students have had the discipline to not retaliate, which is what the violent agitators want.

Every single one of the US’s amendments came not through voting, or within the political system itself. Every single one was accompanied by violent and disruptive protest and the threat from the masses below.

Ok, but protests need to be done “without distraction”? That kind of defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?
I’m against all protests that I can’t ignore completely
I think he meant to stay on point. As in, don’t fall into antisemitism when you’re protesting Israel. Since that’s what he mentioned just before.
Conveniently they are about to declare those the same thing

Translation: We only allow “protests” that are ineffective and don’t cause any trouble for the ruling class
Also, Lemmy.world user detected, opinion rejected.
Somehow you managed to prove your first point with your second comment. Purposely, I’m sure 😆
Name anything significant that changed with “peaceful protest” shit nothing changes when right-wing nut jobs stormed Congress.
Whithout citing any side in particular.
Do you really think Biden is talking about anyone other than the pro-Palistinian protesters in this context?
So you’re just making assumptions about his stance, and disregarding what he says?
Disregard what Liar in Chief Biden says? All the time. White House walks back Biden’s claim he saw children beheaded by Hamas

Washington Post Fact-Checker Gives Up on Recording Biden’s Lies
I judge him by his 50 year track record, not his words.
And yet, he’s still better than the alternative, which, for now, is all that matters.
Then you best join the protesters and hope he hears you.
Current protests are not helping. They have attracted too many outsiders who want to cause damage and sow fear.
You’re claiming Biden would change his mind if people just protested the right way?
Peaceful protests have not won anything. The Civil Rights Movement was not peaceful, despite liberal mythology.

“Violent protest is not protected — peaceful protest is," the president said. “It’s against the law when violence occurs. Destroying property is not a peaceful protest.”
The president also said “no” to a separate shouted question asking whether he thinks the National Guard should intervene in the campus protests.
The President is condemning violent protest and destruction of property here. It is still disheartening that this hasn’t changed his stance on Israel/Palestine.
Do note the Violent protesters" and “destructors of property” are the zionist infiltrators, not the antigenocide protesters. But Biden is so old, apparently everyone look the same to him.
You people always make the same excuses.
“No! It’s not the people I align with who are violent! It’s the paid actors! No, it’s the Feds!”
You have absolutely no evidence that all of the violence is being committed by “zionist infiltrators”.
President condemns illegal activity and antisemitism, supports protests. I’d be surprised by anything else.
