As there has been some interest in a live thread such as the ones on r/eurovision, here is the live thread for the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Sadly, I didn’t find any Lemmy equivalent to https://reddit-stream.com/. But as this community is still pretty small, I think refreshing the website once after each song should be okay.

It’s fun, but could have been better. The whole “pantless” thing was a little cringe. And the song was a little weak.
The fact they even screwed up the pantless thing doesn’t make it better.
Help what was UK 😭 The song was my second place beforehand but the vocals were really bad and the staging… I mean I’m gay and I like seeing handsome men on the stage, but it was… really much.

I thought the staging was awesome. It’s Eurovision, so you got to have shirtless men, right? And the “shifting gravity in a room” trick is a classic but was well done here. The vocals were indeed weak, but maybe they’ll get better after this practice run.

Finnland really nailed the performance. It’s silly, but it was pretty funny and refreshing in a way, I definitely enjoyed it more than the national performance.

All the stagings have been so high quality so far! And the production quality is just insane! I know that the last years have not had the best quality, from the camera people to the stagings and such. And now it just seems so much better. I feel like Sweden just really has the ESC experience which makes it even much more pleasurable to watch tbh.
It also makes me like the songs more than previously / without the live performance.
Oof, lead singer for Australia sounded real tired after the second high note. That’s unfortunate.
My tier list:
TOP:
- Ireland. Bambie Thug KILLS IT!! Outstanding song and choreography.
- Croatia. Hype song, fun costumes.
MID:
- Serbia. Generally don’t like ballads but this one was ok. Plus I dig her “look”
- Lithuania. mid song but excellent performance
- United Kingdom. Weak song but inventive performance.
- Ukraine. The rapping is pretty good.
- Poland. Weak song but once more, the staging is great.
- Slovenia. Good voice. Song is ok.
- Finland. Fun performance, song is a bit weak
- Sweden. Hey, when school gets out, you want to go to the alley outside the club and do karaoke?
- Azerbaijan. Mid song though I dig their clothes and the one guy’s ululations
- Australia. Ok song.
- Luxemburg. The best of the “mid” songs so far.
LOW:
- Cyprus. Not terrible, but unremarkable.
- Iceland. Umm… The background lasers were nice I guess…
- Germany. Lucky for them they already qualified lel.
- Moldova. Graphics reminded me of a screensaver. The end where she played violin and sang in a high pitch was good, she should have done more of that
- Portugal. The background dancers had some interesting moments in their choreography though
I am in the states so I have not been able to watch the performances yet. But from what I saw from their previous performances, your top tier matches with mine. I really like Croatia’s.

I ended up subscribing to peacock for a month to watch. It sucks that I cannot watch the stream from today though.

No because it was over and there is no option to watch it.
As long as it’s not geo-blocked you can try the YT livestream. It’s still available (for me) but don’t know if it works for other countries.

It is unavailable in the states. Which is why I subscribed to peacock thinking I could watch the stream afterwards. I will mess with my vpn today and try and get the YouTube working.
9 of the 10 songs getting through were in my top 10 :O
Only my 10th and 11th place got switched (and honestly I wasn’t even sure in which order I should place the two).Australia missing out is the biggest shame. But 9/10 qualifiers I agree with.
The moderation this year is also really sympathetic and funny; I like it :)

Can you tell me some examples of what he said? I’m German (too?) but I’m watching the YouTube livestream because I wanna see it without moderation (and because I’ve heard bad things about the moderator, but that was the one back then, I think since last or this year we have a new one).
I feel like the new commentator is trying really hard to copy the style of Peter Urban.
I’ll probably watch the next semi final without the German commentsHe basically got a script written for Peter Urban, so that’s why the style was so similar. I still have some hope it gets better once he gets a little used to it.

Heard Croatia for the first time tonight and was… whelmed. For Eurovision rock songs it feels like a lesser good version of Måneskin.
Luckily there were some actually meh songs.
I liked Luxembourgh more than I feel I should.
I could sing a rammstein song to it. That chorus with the shouting is identical to Ich Will by rammstein.
Yeah I want to listen to the Luxembourg song again, I have a feeling it might grow on me.
Now it gets exciting :D
