I would submit a feedback every time I missed the feature while using the app.

I can now stop using Google Photos. :D

How do you tag your dog? I search for mine using the “dog” tag but it doesn’t give me an option to add him as a tagged person unfortunately

Find a good photo of your dog, swipe up, and you should see an icon of your dog there. Just tap that, add a name, and you should see your dog in the people and pets album

        Nope…. Nothing :(

I will keep checking back though! Eventually it will show up (just like I’m sure that one day my Memoji will actually show on my AirPods animation one day, as was promised by apple).

Go to search tab in Photos and there should be a “People & Pets” section. Scroll through that till you find your dog’s bubble. Tapping that should bring up some results and an “unnamed pet” box at the bottom. Tapping that will bring up a profile of your pet, tapping the “Add Name” header will let you name your pet.

My people section still only says people, maybe I need to check what version I’m on and all that…

Is this a regional release only?

I haven’t used the public beta yet. If it is not in the beta yet, then perhaps it will be in a future beta iteration or the final release.

I have enough trouble getting it to let me tag kids or people who aren’t directly face on. Is it too much to ask for a way to manually select an area of the photo and tag it as a person who hasn’t been recognised as a person?

You can actually do that in the macOS photos app if you have a Mac

It’s kind of annoying that a lot of features are locked behind a Mac, but I guess most of the features that require a Mac google photos lacks entirely…

Thanks, I’ll have a look. I have a Mac but rarely use the photos app on it. Any time I open it I have wait for it to download any new photos so I usually just use the iOS app instead of waiting.

Just open the photos and open the info panel (cmd+i). Then just click the plus button where the faces go

I forgot about this feature and just checked it out. It’s remarkably good! My neighbour got 3 almost identical looking cats which are European Shorthair - i sometimes had a hard time telling them apart but Photos could sort them just fine (except for a few minor hiccups).

Mine already does this. Excited for 17 tho.

It can identify dogs and cats already, maybe it can differentiate them and identify them by name?

Will this make memories too? More than just the furry friends one.

Sure does! I have specific year ones “Tass: 2021” and over the years ones “Pugsley over the years”

Also, great work on Mlem! I’ve been loving it!

That’s been on Google photos for a bit, only added a different cat to my cat’s folder once… But they’re both calico

It seems like a simple thing, but I was really looking forward to that feature as well

Exactly. It is a feature that has been in Google Photos since a long while!

I guess Apple didn’t see a lot of value in implementing that feature.

I am just content that it’s finally coming. :-)
