I have a pinephone currently running postmarketos.

I mostly use it for music, browsing, and as my rss feed reader, however, I’d like to do some light gaming on it, where light means fun games like tux racer.

I’m only looking at open source games that work well on a phone form factor with touch input.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Both Unciv and Shattered Pixel Dungeon recently got desktop Linux versions in addition to their original Android versions. I guess they might also work on Linux smart phones with some tinkering.

Unciv seems to work (at least load and start). It looks like Shattered Pixel Dungeon doesn’t have arm support for Linux.

SuperTuxKart has a mobile friendly touchscreen UI, but I’m not sure an original PinePhone can handle it well. I played it on my OnePlus 6T with postmarketOS and it ran smoothly at 60fps.

You can play Quake 1 (quakespasm) on a gamepad. Doom (prboom) also works, but I never figured out how to setup gamepad controls properly. I think SuperTux 2 also works with a gamepad.

OpenTTD works, but requires a mouse and it probably runs too slow on original PinePhone. Hedgewars also requires a mouse, but I think it was smooth.

Super Tux Kart is too slow on original PinePhone. Minetest was also too slow I think.

Gnome’s 2048 is ok and works on a touchsreen.

You could try OpenMW and see if it works (it probalby requires a gamepad or a keyboard though).

Mindustry might work and there is a high chance it has touch support, but I doubt it has an arm build for GNU/Linux (probably only for android), so you might need to compile it yourself.

Yup, I have that installed. It works pretty well. Same with Soduku and Paint Fill. Those are all fine, but I’d like some games that are more entertaining than puzzle games.

I’ve been using Linux daily for >25 years, but haven’t been in the gaming scene for a long time (since the Loki days!)

Yeah, was just saying that for the joke, maybe you could try Armacycles Advanced, no idea if it work with touch screen though
