So, there was a time when they announced that they were changing their name. The name I kept hearing, and hating, was the Cleveland Rockers. Blegh!

So me, assuming the new name was going to be based on the idea of rock and roll being part of our image, I had a different idea. A crazy idea. A real longshot that I never expected to happen, but I still say the name is 100% cooler then “The Guardians” (especially since they don’t use the guardian statue imagery).

My idea is that the Cleveland Indians makes a HUUUUUUUUGE purchase. They buy WMMS from iheartradio. They continue WMMS as 100.7FM, and still play rock themed genres. Kf anything, they become the non-corporate rock station. Who plays local artists. Who doesn’t have a set list that just repeats everyday. But during the games, they’d have Tom Hamilton and crew announcing the games. Just as always.

They become the Cleveland Buzzards, and use the WMMS buzzard logo as their logo too.

The other idea I had was calling them the “Cleveland Drummers” with a cartoon version of John Adams face as the logo. This was before he died, so I figured he’d be at opening day of the new team…and then beat his drum. Unfortunately, he came down with health issues. He battled health issues, and died during the Guardians first season.

And the stadium does not feel the same without him.

Some lively and healthy discussion, but let’s keep one thing in mind.

    The Ghoulardies would be dope.

Ok that IS kind of an awesome idea that I hadn’t even considered.

I DID think about the “Big Chucks and Little Johns”, but it was too wordy, and I could just see us becoming the “Cleveland Chucks” by shortening it. And that just loses the whole point.

I even thought maybe the “Cleveland Carrys” after Drew Carry. But then I remembered most people assosiate him more now with price is right, than Cleveland. I was definately imagining young fat Drew. Which if you used a cartoonized version of his smiling face with glasses, would make for a great hat logo.

The joke idea I had was if we paid homage to our old industrial past, by incorporating the image of the late 1800s/early 1900s locomotive, and all the industrial jobs it supported with the infrastructure for transportation during the peak of Clevelands heights. The hat logo would be an old timey steam train.

      That’s right.

The Cleveland Steamers! (What? I SAID it was the joke answer. I don’t know why you got your hopes up like that…)

Nah. I actually think the other two ideas I heard at that time were worse. The Cleveland Spiders, and The Cleveland Municipal Baseball Team, with the nickname being “The Munis”.

Those are awful. Especially considering the spiders were a failed baseball team in the NL. Its NOT a part of the Indians/Guardians history. Just the same as the AHL Cleveland monsters shares no history with the IHL Cleveland Lumberjacks (other than Jock Callander being on the commentary team).

That one is honestly the most boring one I can think of. It reminds me of “The Washington Football Team”.

We have opposite end opinions on sport team names. Hard disagree.
