Notably, the MacBook Pro got thicker and heavier with its most recent redesign in 2021. That redesign corresponded with the MacBook Pro’s transition to Apple Silicon, as well as the return of ports such as MagSafe, HDMI, and an SD card slot.

Yeah and the chunky MBP is fucking dope. It has loads of ports, great battery life, doesn’t burn with the intensity of 10,000 suns under load, and feels incredibly sturdy.

I have a 14” M3 Max MBP for work and I have to agree, the design is fantastic. The weight and thinkness have never been an issue for me, and it’s nearly silent unless I have all cores maxed out for more than a couple of minutes. Battery life is phenomenal too, I love when traveling that it can make it through an entire day no matter what I throw at it. If they ruin that for me I’ll be so disappointed.

Yeah I love mine. After having one of the 2017s that suffered from the infamous keyboard issues as my work machine, the apple silicon ones feel like a return to quality engineering. I really hope they don’t screw around with that.

My M1 will make it through an entire workday doing software development with multiple IDEs and emulators running and my phone plugged in also drawing power. When that happens, the only reason I notice is in the last 30 minutes of the day it gives me a low battery warning. These Mx chips are beasts.

And fwiw, I love my mb air m2 (going from a 2017 mbp) . So if someone DOES prefer something thinner with the tradeoffs that entails, that product already exists!

I was okay with it getting thicker as well. I never got into the thinner is better thing. If I wanted something thin and light I would get an Air not a MBP. Still love the form factor of my 2010 MBP. I also really enjoyed Snow Leopard

I thought we did this already and came to the conclusion that thinness only matters up to a point, then it’s just removing battery life/functionality/durability chasing a benchmark that nobody actually cares about. Oh well, hopefully they learned their lessons last time and it’s better this go around.

I’m sorry but you clearly aren’t listening. Apple is telling you you want thinner.

Yeah, once it easily fits in a pocket next to other stuff, I really just want as much battery life and durability as possible. Then again, I tend to not buy the newest and most expensive phone, so I’m clearly not their target audience. The SE line is a much, much better deal.

I don’t care too much about the size. It’s the weight that needs to be reduced on laptops.

Apple: “Our new chips are more efficient so we can make devices thinner with a smaller battery and still get 10 hours of battery!”

Everyone: “Or just keep them the same and use a bigger battery to get, like 15-20 hours of battery?”

    Apple: “NO.”

I’ve always wanted to have a flushed back with no camera mesa, but instead a thicker battery. Never happened because allegedly batteries are too heavy and people don’t lift.

I still have an iPhone 4 in a drawer and it’s totally flat on the back. Still looks really cool.

I just want another mini phone, it’s nice they are making them lighter but I want something I can use with one hand. Not a brick that’s been sliced slightly thinner. I want another iPhone mini with usb c and better battery life

Magnificunt move! That way, the MacBooks get all the problems back they had back in the days when they got thinner and thinner, and with the “self repair service” they get even more money! And when the people verschlimmbessern their devices, they get even more money when they buy a new MacBook!!

I have to put that thin phone into a big fat protective case anyways, because some dunce decided to build everything out of glass.

I miss the Nokias from the 90s.

Admittedly yeah this would be super cool, especially if it was as thin as the new iPads. Never considered buying a foldable phone, and part of that is that when folded up they do seem too thick. An iPhone that could fold out to basically be an iPad mini and folded completely flat would be cool.

What would I fold a Macbook Pro into? Quarters?

More adapters, less connectivity, less battery power and less durability.

    Sounds great for Windows sales.

Hey Apple, you’re building it wrong.
