The logical next step is to implement a system that works better than apples; something less vulnerable to rot. Anyone know how to measure merit behind closed doors? Me neither, so obviously complete transparency matters. If you murder someone but I let you decide what officially happened and what the punishment is, are you going to spend the rest of your life in prison? No? You don’t decide that? Well clearly the better system needs external auditing.

What is a proper meme anyways?

In the 90s we had a meme.

      “WAZZZZUUUUPPPPP!!!”

And everybody did it, as they danced the macarana, and ate that taco bell dog…wait…

Fun fact: chihuahuas probably began as livestock. The Aztecs ate them. I let my Chiweenie know that on a regular basis when he’s a naughty boy that he could easily be dinner.

I didn’t know that about Chihuahuas. Guinea Pigs were livestock too, but that’s much less surprising when you see how dopey and delicious they are.

I went into a bit of a guinea pig hole and found this other random guinea pig fact:

In Switzerland, where owning a single guinea pig is considered harmful to its well-being, keeping a guinea pig without a companion is illegal.[66] There is a service to rent guinea pigs, to temporarily replace a dead cage-mate.[67]

Honestly, they’re not wrong. Guinea pigs are social animals and live in large families. Same is true with ferrets. You really shouldn’t have just one of either. People treat them like sort of lesser pets to dogs or cats, but they still require their own special and humane care.

(Yes, I have been reading a lot about Guinea pigs lately for reasons involving giving a teenager reasons to not get them. Or ferrets.)

                  Get chickens!

Like guinea pigs, they are dopey, social, and delicious. Quite fun to watch, actually.

Unlike ferrets, they also provide food for you and your family nearly every day. And they’ll offer amazing free fertilizer for your lawn or garden.

They are cheap to purchase and care for. And they are pretty self-sufficient and hardy. Cleaning their coop and run is the biggest task (and makes for good compost), as long as they’ve got food, water, and a space safe from predators, they’ll pretty much fend for themselves. And they’ll live a life of luxury compared to their factory-farmed brethren.

I was against it until my wife (a vegan, of all people) came home with 6 baby chicks one day. And they’ve really been growing on me.

                  Edit: Chicken taxChicken tax!

Most I’d do is grab my cat by the scruff of her neck and say “NO! BAD! Grrrrrrrrrr!!!” and she’d run off with her tail between her legs and a sorry look on her face. Then a few hours later, we would go back to normal and she wouldn’t do that thing again.

Except for putting her butthole in my face. Never got her to stop that when I first woke up every afternoon.

There’s some stupid zoomers who think that macro images are what memes are and they have zero concept of memetic epidemiology. A meme is an idea that spreads via a simple means of expression. That’s it. It’s containerized thought.

I would call them niave zoomers.

Niave means you haven’t been taught something. This is the world they were born into. They cannot understand a world without the internet, nor cell phones.

Stupid is when you’re taught something, and you cannot grasp it.

Very few young people seek out concepts they don’t understand, and even fewer seek out concepts they don’t know if it exists.

Information being out there, and them having seen it aren’t the same thing. Who taught all the zoomers these things? Did you know that the reason most fast food besides McDonalds has Pepsi and not Coke is because at various times in history Pepsi would buy different fast food businesses, before making them exclusively Pepsi, and selling the brand?

That information is out there…but did you ever see it?

Or what about the myth that Coca Cola the soft drink DIDN’T originally contain cocaine, and also didn’t start off as what we think of as a soft drink. It started off as an unregulated medicine for indigestion, with extracts from the Coca plant. But at no time did a carbonated cola with cocaine ever get sold to the public.

That information is out there too.

I’m pretty sure it’s more a distinction between people who focus on personal liberties and especially private property vs collectivism and socialism. Basically lots of people aren’t for right wing fascism but still want to own private property, view their personal comforts more important than necessarily the needs of others (NIMBYs I think count here) etc.

This could be as simple as not liking property damage in protests, still preferring cars and trucks to public transportation, not liking high occupancy buildings in your area etc, at least that’s how I’ve gleaned it as someone who doesn’t use that kinda label myself.

I could be wrong, but that’s how it feels to me. Closer to centrist or even just original form of libertarian, which some have labeled as being a bit more left wing than US libertarians.

I gave a deduced definition, not an endorsement. I will say that I view human rights and human life as more important than private property, but I am in no way encouraging people to harm or steal from someone they just don’t like.

When someone asked me what I’d do about someone stealing an A/C unit off a house if I didn’t have a gun, my answer was basically “I would not kill someone over an a/c unit.” I stand by that statement.

yes. thank you for a more nuanced viewpoint. i’d have to agree with your assessment, even if i don’t agree with the principle.

for me, living in a society requires being part of a collective (in the modern world). i prefer many of the things that the ‘true libertarian’ prefers, but i don’t expect society to provide my selfish desires. that’s why i choose rural over urban. but the suburbs are part of am urban landscape, so if someone wants to live that NIMBY life, that need to make sure their backyard is far away from the other backyards. i realize that is getting harder and harder to do, which is why i dream of a secular society where we can practice a humanitarian from of birth control, because ultimately, a healthy life just isn’t possible when we are crowded into tight spaces. humans need room to breathe and express themselves.
