Is it maybe planned to be able to set a custom tag for a community instead of one pulled from the url? I reckon there are many communities where this would make more sense.

Like the community i am moderating is c/bicycle_touring, but i think #biketouring and #bikepacking are the hashtags that are being used on mastodon for this stuff.

The devs have said that they only follow issues on GitHub, so if it stays here the chances of it making it to the development pipelines are quite low

Ah ok. I would kinda be surprised if that hasn’t been discussed, this should be relevant for a lot of communities. Just checked for example #desire_paths has 0 posts on mastodon, they’re all being posted without underscore. Or [email protected] would probably be better categorized under a #bicycle" or “bicycling” hashtag.

Maybe someone here with a github account thinks this is a good idea and will create an issue there. If not i may look into it when i am done with my holidays.

Cant imagine anything worse than not only specific communities names to post to, but also arbitrarily collecting up #hashtags. Would these appear as posts to you? What if the poster didn’t want it to appear in your community?

Not sure i get what you’re saying. Lemmy now adds a hashtag for better mastodon interoperability that is pulled from the url of the community. I was simply proposing that it would be nice if this hashtag could be customized if it would make sense to do so, as an option.

I’m not sure what you mean by this. Is it just for better integration with mastodon?

Yeah, like what the introduction of hashtags for lemmy posts aims for.
