I’ve been using reddit for over a decade and there’s a few subreddits I’ve been banned from (/r/news, /r/crazyfuckingvideos, etc). Unfortunately, I keep forgetting when I’m browsing. If I accidentally comment in one of those my current account gets banned for ban evasion. Is there a browser extension that can block participation in certain communities but still allow you to see content? I can’t keep having my current reddit accounts permenantly banned like this and then lose all my subscriptions and preferences and friends etc. This has happened twice already.

Please help.

Best of luck to you with this question. Reddit is actively hostile to developers writing tools to change the way users interact with the platform.

They only want you using it the way they intended and no other way. Bridges have been burned with developers that maintained these kinds of tools. This is a huge part of why many users are on Lemmy in the first place.

There is a chance that you could use an ad blocker to prevent you from accessing those.

The funny thing is that I asked this question before, and was also downvoted then too because people think this isn’t something that could ever happen to them and I must be stupid. Trust me folks, give it four more years and a ban or two and you’ll be tearing your hair out just the same and cursing the platform.

I’m guessing that’s not the reason for the downvotes. Even though this is the reddit community, Lemmy users generally just don’t care about what happens on reddit.

Ive been here a while and I can definitely say Lemmy users are psychotic. They weren’t always this way though, when I first joined Lemmy people were kinda nice and laid back. But it very quickly became politically charged with extremists on both sides of the political aisle, and thats when everything crumbled.

Posting and commenting on Lemmy feels like walking on eggshells now, when it used to be chill.

You could block or mute those subreddits, that would stop them showing into your feed and stop you from engaging with them.

Anyways stay away from r/all and trending, because reddit tends to push those subs even when you have muted or blocked them. Although not so sure about this one, its been sometime since I have used Reddit.

Source: Used to block the AmITheAsshole and other relationship subs on reddit, made browsing popular way more interesting for me.
