As a kid who went to school in a mildly rural school in Tennessee, I can confirm that our teachers said out loud they did not believe in evolution but “it’s on the curriculum so I have to teach it”

my honors bio teacher wouldn’t even teach it (also in tn.) we spent ~2m on her acknowledging the chapter in our text book and she swiftly moved right on to another chapter.

That’s $15,000 in legal fees and one dollar in damages. I really wish TST would seek real monetary damages for such blatant constitutional violations, it would send a message everywhere not to break the law.

That would kind of undermine their legitimacy though. I agree that the parties pushing for theocracy should be given better incentives against blatant unconstitutional behavior. But we also can’t give them any cover to paint TST as an opportunistic cash grab. By only seeking token damages, TST maintains the moral high ground while also protecting freedom from religion.

Then they lose the high ground when christofascists paint them as out to make an easy buck off the taxpayers. $1 is a smart move.

Now I wish our legal system could let the winner designate a beneficiary, like,

“if you lose, you have to donate $600,000 to this child literacy program” or something.

And just have the money go directly from the loser to the charity.

Maybe that’s already a thing. I don’t know how our legal system works.

They know that all the money would just come from the taxpayers, and it would make them look bad.

Look, I’m not saying Satan is the greatest guy, but it makes sense he would have gotten a pretty raw deal reputation wise after losing the war in heaven.

Satan isn’t even a name. It just means “adversary” in Hebrew. Even Lucifer just means “morning star” which is a name for the planet Venus.
