Vanderbilt’s discus thrower and Olympian Veronica Fraley lamented on social media that she needed help paying the rent.

Hip-hop artist Flavor Flav and entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian decided to help.

Soon after Fraley posted on the social media platform, X, that she was in need of financial assistance, Flav, founding member of the hip-hop group Public Enemy and a big fan of USA Water Polo, responded: “I gotchu.”

Right on top that, Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit and husband of tennis star Serena Williams, wrote: “Got you!” He followed through, too, by posting a picture of paying $7,760.00 and writing, "’Murica.”

Hooray America, where people struggle to pay rent and have to be popular enough to catch the attention of the rich.

The Hunger Games books and movies were a criticism, not an ideal.

Totally. On the flip side, it blows my mind that more rich people don’t do this kind of stuff more often. If only for the ego boost / moment in the spotlight they’d get out of it. Instead, they’ll just horde the money.

I mean, there’s a commonality between the US and with a lot of these other poor countries where people can’t afford rent or food… A certain economic system…

The athlete said: “the rules [] bar me from making the amount I’m WORTH as a collegiate athlete such as NIL which favors popularity over performance”

Professional athletes are basically entertainers, and people pay to watch sports they find entertaining. It’s too bad for her that discus isn’t one of those sports. I don’t know what she’s suggesting, that someone(?) be forced to pay athletes who are extremely good at their sports, even if nobody is particularly interested in watching those sports?

Also didn’t she win bronze? May as well win a participation award at that point.
