“The hospital misplaced a small section of his skull”

“The piece of skull removed measured 12 by 15 centimeters”

I seem to have a different view to this journalist of what constitutes a “small section” of a skull.

Okay I know our “healthcare” system is bad, but how the fuck do you lose part of somebody’s freaking skull.

As someone who works in healthcare, I’d like to sit here and point a finger and laugh, but the truth is that these “never events” happen in every health system. Every incident has a different explanation and this kind of shit happens regardless of other underlying issues in the US healthcare system. In other words, single payer wouldn’t stop someone from making a terrible mistake like this. Insane mistakes happen to the best of us

The problem isnt that the skull was lost. I get that part…shit happens. Its the $19k charge for replacing what they lost that isnt ok

Not even that, multiple bone flaps had incomplete information.

You can’t fucking guess and check here based on being thorough with the other sections of skull? Nope. This means they did this shit with one other person at the very least. That comment alone is enough to win this case based on negligence.

Arts and crafts day in the cancer ward and someone takes home their ashtray.

I guess someone accidentally put it in the 'throw away’pile instead of the ‘put back in patient’ one.

How do you replace part of a skull? It’s not like you can cast it… can you?
