The sheriff’s office confirmed that Lujan deployed a Taser once Thompson had entered the interstate. According to the lawsuit, Lujan was standing on the shoulder of the highway when he deployed the Taser.

Body camera footage shows Thompson becoming incapacitated after being stunned and collapsing on the ground. Lujan notices the oncoming traffic and utters some profanity before moving to the side of the highway, according to the lawsuit.

“Deputy Lujan did not attempt to move Mr. Thompson to a place of safety so that he would not be run over,” said the attorneys in the lawsuit.

Brent was then hit by a passing car. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

So not only are they responsible for the death of someone who didn’t need to die, they are also responsible for the trauma of the driver who killed the person.

Expired tags is clearly something worthy if a death sentence so it is a price that must be paid to live in a civilized society.

Sound advice, but not always possible as the cop that left the man unconscious in the road so he could dodge the vehicle knew.

Cops are weird serial killers with a huge need for admiration and glory and generally a steroid addiction.

    End of story.

Why did he run? Edit: reddit said a fentanyl addiction

I think the officer could have done more to slow down the driver, but the dude ran onto an active highway. He could have been hit before being tazed.

And the office could have NOT tased him on a fucking highway. Making it very likely that he’d be incapacitated in an area with obvious and inherent dangers.

      Why did he run?

Same reason that I, as a generally law-abiding straight white male sometimes get the FLEE response.

I know how cops like to act, and the fact that I’m in close proximity to one who has their attention on me means my odds of premature death have gone up substantially.

The fight or flight response isn’t known for inducing a rational state of mind. And even rationally, while I know I can’t outrun a bullet fired from a gun, I also know that each foot I get further from a gun increases the odds of the gunshot missing.

People can drown, so it’s okay if the police put you into a straightjacket and throw you into a pool, right?
