I don’t think you can use Lemmy’s user-level Instance blocks for what you want. The assumption is that if you’re blocking an Instance, you don’t want to see either the communities or the people. There’s a bit of compromise happening that appeases the majority: you can’t block the replies from physically existing, but you can at least prevent being notified of them.
It might be better not to use the Instance block, and individually block all ml’s communities. This would be ball-ache to do by hand, but is scriptable via the API (you’d just have to rerun your script occasionally to catch newly-created communities)
Blocking all these communities would be difficult for the user but also it would create more load on the server which i don’t want to do.
Hmmm. Well short of running your own server and hacking away at whatever platform it’s running, I think you’re looking at a Feature Request for Lemmy devs (for an option to be included with blocking Instances, to hide/show reply notifications from that instance’s users)
Half of the time i select “All” instead of “Subscribed” or “Local” for my feed. (… and i have eight blocked instances)
Well now you have to tell us which 8, and why!
But i might just be typical and boring on this aspect … and maybe it is so that most users have also many instances blocked, each one according to their tastes.

If he blocked you or your instance you’d still see them, but they don’t see you. Blocks only go one way.
But I have the entire .ML instance blocked and I also still see users from that instance when they post to other instances (as is the case here). It only seems to block the communities on that instance. You’d think it would block everything from the instance, including the users.

Great ! Now, for these users, did you notice that you are not notified when they answer to your post or comments ? (this is really what I was trying to ask in the title of this post … I guess my question was not easy to read, no one until now is answering)
I can’t be certain; sometimes I get reply notifications from comments that don’t exist (has no user info or text beyond “no record of this comment”). I don’t know if they simply deleted it or if that’s something I’m seeing because it’s a blocked user or instance.

Do you care to elaborate a bit more on what you don’t like about .ml moderation? I joined Lemmy before the reddit exodus. At the time I joined, .ml was the largest instance.
You are here (there) since 2 years and maybe you noticed that if we post something in favor of Ukraine or criticizing China and russia on “.ML” then we are in trouble (or create large friction with moderators and administrators) ?

I mean, I mostly look at memes, so I never noticed that. And .ml stands for Mali, the country. I didn’t know it was a dual meaning acronym.
.ml was attributed to Mali by internet authority but Lemmy administrators (& developers) at the time choose that one (.ml) because they are Marxist Leninist … and because those domains were not expensive.

FOSS is the reason why I joined Lemmy, and I was at least mildly aware of the developers’ philosophy. I wasn’t aware they were moderating all dissent.

In a federated system, only the instance admin can block others from commenting.
You can ignore, but you can’t prevent them from replying to your public posts.

They’re talking about blocking an instance, which isn’t blocking every user, it’s blocking every community.
If you do that you still see accounts and their comments, but do t get notified by replies.
