I was feeling an itch to quantify this list and look at the impact of recent elections as well. Here’s the tallies as I found them from the source-

    USA- 58 interventions, 3 since 2000

    Soviet Union/Russia- 38 interventions, 9 since 2000

    China- 20 interventions, 18 since 2000

    Saudi Arabia- 4 interventions, 3 since 2000

    Iran- 4 interventions, 3 since 2000

    Israel- 3 interventions, all post-2000

    India- 3 interventions, 2 since 2000

    France- 3 interventions, 2 since 2000

There’s a smattering of others with 1-3 interventions but these were the main ones.

I’m happy to see most of the hypocrisy limited to the Cold War. Well, that we know of, at least.

the US switched to sanctions and is now sanctioning like 30% of the world. For instance, afaik, the trump sanctions on venezuela started the current uptick of venezuelan refugees

The refugees as you call them have been steady since 2013, way before the sanctions to 7 specific individuals, but just in time for socialism to fail due to lack of money

the reality is there was a big uptick in border crossings and refugees about a year after the 2017 sanctions blocking oil sales that created a debt crisis and its only gone up since then

The Vatican, another theocratic state instantiated by far right extremists. The Vatican as a modern nation state was formalized by Mussolini.

      Saudi Arabia- 4 interventions, 3 since 2000

      This feels like an undercount.

      Israel- 3 interventions, all post-2000

This feels like an enormous undercount.

Russian disinformation campaigns are basically everywhere in Western democracies at this point, they’re just hard to measure and to formally pin on the Kremlin directly.

It’s a bit trickier to have a stable and efficient disinformation apparatus in place when you change governments every 4 years. Whatever is directly supported by the government would have to be supported by both the Trump and the Biden cabinets, or start from scratch every fourth year. The Kremlin doesn’t have that problem.

Of course, the US military and certain other institutions tend to run their own side show. We all know the US was tapping phone lines in Berlin for decades, and there’s little reason to believe they have fundamentally changed.

As a European, I’m just somewhat more worried about Russia at the moment, considering their support for the far right, successful effort to get Trump elected, the war in Ukraine, and all that. But by all means, I’m not naive to the US either, and I’m not sure why you would assume that I am.

That’s definitely true, but America is different for their internal affairs than for their external affairs (as is any country). America’s habit of meddling with other countries is a bipartisan effort.

Of course as an European I’m also more worried about Russia and China as ideologically they are more distant to us.

This list is very incomplete. I’m noticing American coups in at least Pakistan with Imran Khan and 2020 Venezuela are missing. Also Afghanistan doesn’t exist on that list?

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Gideon_(2020)

Operation Gideon (Spanish: Operación Gedeón) was an unsuccessful attempt by the Active Coalition of the Venezuelan International Reserve, Venezuelan dissidents, and a private security firm, Jordan Goudreau’s Silvercorp USA, to infiltrate Venezuela by sea and remove Nicolás Maduro from power.

The US administration of Donald Trump pressured for the exit of Maduro,[18] charged him with narcoterrorism, and put a US$15 million reward for information leading to his capture and arrest. [19][20] Yet throughout 2019, the Maduro administration maintained control of Venezuela’s military agencies and key governmental institutions.[21] Maduro enjoyed the support of the higher ranks of the military, but less so among the middle and lower ranks.[14][15]

            Moving my goalpost from

            • The coup attempt didn’t happen

            to

            • The coup attempt doesn’t count because it was so badly executed

It should be noted that the US attempted to indict Maduro on nacro-trafficking charges that same year, offering a $15M reward for his arrest and extradition. This was the underlying motivation for the Silver Corps bungled mission.

This was also two years after a drone attack was launched against a site hosting Maduro during a speech.

But please, lets all pretend the US doesn’t have an explicit policy of regime change aimed at the current President of Venezuela. Or, for that matter, the national leadership of Bolivia, Cuba, and Nicaragua.

I mean, others are doing the same. We know because it makes it harder for us to meddle in foreign elections. And of course Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, they’re going to interfere with our elections as much as they can. President Trump was very good for them, and his voters are easily swayed.

You really think that for the entire duration of the russian empire and its successor states (to this very day) all those vassals actually had a say in their government? There’s no helping you.

Jesus Christ, dude. The russian empire predates the American state. They’ve been subjugating client states for a long, long time. They’ve been undermining the free will of countless Eurasian peoples for centuries. And they’re more active in that arena now than they were back in the old days.
